NEA President welcomes Sen. Bernie Sanders’ endorsement of Hillary Clinton

‘Enthusiasm…brought to the 2016 presidential primary cannot be overstated’

WASHINGTON - July 12, 2016 -

NEA President Lily Eskelsen García today provided the following statement in response to the official endorsement by U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders for Hillary Clinton’s bid to become the President of the United States:

“Sen. Bernie Sanders has always been a friend of educators and our appreciation for the energy and enthusiasm that he and his supporters — especially younger voters — brought to the 2016 presidential primary cannot be overstated. His campaign contributed greatly to the nation’s political discourse. That work continues as he partners with Hillary Clinton to champion progressive plans to tackle the growing problem of college affordability, income and economic inequality, and to strengthen health care. These are issues both recognize are priorities for the American people. We look forward to working with Sen. Sanders both on the campaign trail and in the U.S. Senate to advance the critical issues that he brought to the forefront of the American conscience during the Democratic primary campaign.

“Now, more than ever, we must come together to ensure a great future for this country. Collectively, we know there is simply too much at stake in this election. We cannot afford to let Donald Trump get anywhere near the White House. His misguided and reckless vision would take the country in the wrong direction. He is too dangerous, ill-informed and temperamentally unfit to lead this country.”
