REALITY CHECK: Trump and Pence Would Make America Great…for Billionaires
WASHINGTON - October 04, 2016 -
"Donald Trump proclaiming he is for the middle-class doesn't pass my smell test. He will help only himself and his billionaire friends. Mike Pence is cut out of the same cloth. He has supported enormous and extreme tax cuts for the wealthy and voted to keep the federal minimum wage at $5.15 and hour. He also championed a proposal to cut Medicare, school lunches, and other basic programs for hard-working families. I want a President who understands and works for all Americans, not just the wealthiest 1%. Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine will develop economic policies that work for everyone." – Julie Friedmann, Adult Education Educator, Jefferson County, CO
THE FACTS:
- Donald Trump’s benefit-the-rich tax plan “would cut taxes at all income levels, although the largest benefits, in dollar and percentage terms, would go to the highest-income households.”
- Donald Trump’s tax plan wouldn’t even accomplish his stated goal. “Unless it is accompanied by very large spending cuts, it could increase the national debt by nearly 80 percent of gross domestic product by 2036, offsetting some or all of the incentive effects of the tax cuts.”

- Donald Trump’s view on a living wage is as malleable as much of his ever-shifting campaign. He’s flip-flopped his views at least five times in the past year. See if you can find a coherent stance in it: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/fact-checker/wp/2016/08/03/a-guide-to-all-of-donald-trumps-flip-flops-on-the-minimum-wage
- Mike Pence put himself through logical gymnastics in Congress when he voted against raising the federal minimum wage from $5.15 to $7.25, which he called “an excessive increase.” He even convinced himself the wage increase would “hurt the working poor.”
