Pensions and Retirement Security

NEA member Pat Provnick

NEA is dedicated to protecting defined-benefit pension plans because these plans provide a predictable, guaranteed benefit. Educators receive a modest pension following a career dedicated to public service – often forgoing higher salaries offered in the private sector.

NEA’s Collective Bargaining and Member Advocacy department (CBMA) helps members defend their retirement security and advocates for these retirement programs, which ultimately benefit our students and their communities by promoting more stable learning environments. Working with our state affiliates and numerous allies, we help organize the resistance to the coordinated and well-funded attacks on educators’ retirement security. CBMA also provides support and resources, and consults with our members who serve as pension fund trustees in nearly every state.
